Wildernest - 2026 Drought Update

June 25th, 2026

The winter season of 2025 has officially gone into the record books as the worst snowpack for Summit County and the state of Colorado.

Despite recent rains, the counties and states’ water supplies are at record lows and we are in unprecedented times moving into the summer. We encourage everyone to follow the drought issue and read the Colorado River District’s 2026 state of the river meeting materials and help conserve water. The information paints a grim outlook for this year’s water availability and potential wildfire activity. The district is working with local agencies and emergency services to prepare more than ever for a dry year and potentially an increase in wildfire activity. In response to the dire effects of a lack in water, the district and many other towns and agencies are having to cut back on water use to levels never seen before in our state’s history.  The district is enacting mandatory outside water restrictions that will only allow for outside usage (2) days a week.

Please check the district’s website for water restrictions, tips and how you can use your water meter and districts billing to help conserve water or reach out if you have any questions. We greatly appreciate your understanding and efforts with this unprecedented drought.
